Objectives

The participant:

• Will know how Ethernet is used in BMW vehicles and how Ethernet-based communication can be analyzed.
• Will be supported with relevant information for their work in the field of Ethernet and know the relevant contact persons for the technical implementation.

Content

• Practical training and consolidation: Using demonstration models of two controllers, every participant can individually apply the knowledge they have learned on the cabling of the measurement hardware, switch configurations, and the analysis of the Ethernet communication.
• In particular, error detection and analysis will be completed and taught in the course in practical elements.
• Main themes:
  • Logging concept and analysis of Ethernet communication.
  • Logging tools (CARMEN, Wireshark).
  • Interpretation of the service catalog to analyze application communication.
  • Identifying errors in Ethernet communication.
  • Practical part: Troubleshooting and analysis of example errors.

Target Group

• Suppliers who work in the Ethernet environment and would like to gain in-depth knowledge of the technology and its use at BMW.

Good to Know

• Participation in Basics: Ethernet - the Basis for Networking in the Vehicle (BIS_01_07797) is recommended.
• Please bring your laptop including functional software for the analysis of Ethernet communication (CARMEN or Wireshark) and installed WinPcap driver.
